Vulnerability Assessment

A Vulnerability Assessment is an EPA required review of your system to determine the impact of a terrorist attack or other intentional act aimed at disrupting your ability to service your customers. A free Vulnerability Assessment template is available through PRWA and will guide you through all the required assessments.    Request information here.

Requirements
In accordance with the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 all community water systems with a population over 3,300 must prepare and submit a Vulnerability Assessment to the EPA by June 30, 2004. In addition, within 6 months of submitting their Vulnerability Assessment to EPA the system must verify to the EPA that they have prepared and/or updated their Emergency Response Plan.

Deadlines
Systems with a population between 3,301 and 49,999 must submit their Vulnerability Assessment to EPA by June 30, 2004. EPA will use the Safe Drinking Water Information System to determine if your water system falls between 3,301 and 49,999 population. You must also certify to the EPA that your Emergency Response Plan has been updated or completed for the first time within 6 months of filing your Vulnerability Assessment. If you submitted your Vulnerability Assessment to EPA on June 30, 2004 your certification of your Emergency Response Plan would be due on December 31, 2004.
