Herb Mattern, East Petersburg Boro Water Dept Superintendant, named PRWA Board President

September 2, 2011-Bellefonte, PA-Herb Mattern has been elected Board President of the Pennsylvania Rural Water Association.  The mission of the Pennsylvania Rural Water Association is to work cooperatively within the industry to support not only its members but all the water and wastewater utilities throughout the Commonwealth with professional technical support, certified training, legislative representation, and other valuable services and benefits.

Mr. Mattern has been with the East Petersburg Borough Water Department since 1989 and has been an active member on the PRWA Board since 2007. The East Petersburg Borough Water Department has been a member of the PA Rural Water Assn. since 1991. 

Mattern became supervisor of the E. Petersburg Borough Water Dept. in 1990.  Since 1999, he has served as Public Works Superintendant, in charge of the Water Dept., Streets, and Pool Parks.  In 2000, Mattern was awarded the Richard C. Miller Water Operator of the Year Award by the Pennsylvania Rural Water Association. 

Mattern is an active member of his community and serves as a member of Forestry for the Bay Master Mason Lodge 0587, a member of the Tall Cedars-Lancaster County No. 27, a member of the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, as well as a member and trustee of the Germania Band of Manheim.  Additionally, the newly appointed PRWA Board President serves as a committee member of the Lower Susquehanna Basin Regional Water Resources and as Vice Chairman for the Northwester Lancaster County Authority Water and Sewer Department.
