Sewer Lateral Inspections
Our Authority will soon be adopting this ordinance and I'm looking for the best way to conduct this inspection.
Do we buy a new camera and do it ourselves or hire a contractor? Who is available?
Do we need to be certified?
Any help would be appreciated.
My number is 570-345-8111 ext.210

Lateral inspections
No easy answers here. If you are like most sewer systems in PA you will have to access most of the laterals from inside the home or from the collection system.
If you are going in the homes you can do it with a push camera as long as you don't need to go out more that 150'. After that it gets tough to push the cable as it will start to corkscrew.
If you are going from the collection system lines than you'll need a lateral launcher from your main camera. Some of the manufacturers can add this capability easily with others you must buy a complete new system.
Contracting out the service you will want to make sure they have the correct equipment and that this is not their first rodeo. There are some good outfits out there that will provide a good job at a fair price and have been working with municipalities for awhile. Others are plumbers looking for a way to increase their business.
I think going from the collections system is the easiest way to go as you don't have to enter peoples homes so it can be done on your own timetable. Going in and out of people's houses with sewer equipment can cause a lot of problems.
