Entry Level Operator Position Water & Sewer Utility

The Authority of the Borough of Charleroi is now accepting resumes to fill a position within the Authority.  The successful candidate will be assigned to either the Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant or the Distribution Department.

 

Example of Duties

  • Assists in or performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance and repair work on water/wastewater equipment, systems, vehicles and tools as needed.
  • Drives and operates assigned vehicles as needed to provide effective and safe services to customers.
  • Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs water distribution or wastewater collection system facilities.
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces water mains, valves, service lines, and hydrants or sewer lines and manholes.
  • Monitors SCADA system and interpret data used for the operation of the Water or Wastewater Plant and Distribution System.
  • Communicates with customers to satisfy customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Performs restoration work including, but not limited to, concrete, asphalt, and landscape.

 

Work Environment

  • Exposure to inclement weather at times.
  • Work may occur in confined spaces as well as in elevated areas more than 50 feet.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals and environments at the Treatment Plants.
  • Night and weekend callouts for emergency repairs.
  • Shift work at the Water Treatment Plant to provide 24-hour coverage.
  • Weekend at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

 

Qualifications

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED. Post-secondary education or trade school is preferred but not a requirement.
  • Obtain proper certification from the PA DEP for job position.
    • Candidates already possessing a Water or Wastewater certification are preferred.
  • Must pass a controlled substance test (drug and alcohol) and have a clear criminal history.
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees, customers, contractors and others.
  • Ability to perform heavy labor, including but not limited to, standing, bending, reaching, digging, walking long distances, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to understand the operation of pumps, valves, motors, and other mechanical equipment related to operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to learn on the job, organize and complete daily paperwork, read and understand written and verbal instructions and daily work orders.
