Water Treatment Plant Supervisor
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a management position responsible for the effective daily and long-range operation of the water treatment plant. The Water Treatment Plant Superintendent has overall responsibility for filter plant and wellfield operations, treatment processes including employee efforts, equipment operations, facilities maintenance, and record keeping. The Water Treatment Plant Superintendent reports directly to the Director of Operations.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Supervise all plant employees, schedule and manage workforce to promote productivity and efficient operating practices, and compliance with Authority’s established work rules.
Oversee and evaluate daily plant operations, make needed adjustments as necessary to ensure proper operation consistent with Operation and Maintenance Manual provisions; insure full and continuous compliance with Federal and State Safe Drinking Water Acts and regulations.
Maintain necessary records and files on plant operations and equipment and submit all required reports on a timely basis.
Through planning, procure tools, equipment, materials and supplies to insure continued adequate inventory for expected tasks.
Be familiar with and capable of implementing emergency response procedures and remedial actions.
Maintain compliance with the Authority’s safety policies.
Carry out an effective preventive maintenance program.
Evaluate the condition and adequacy of the plant facility; conduct reviews of staff performance. Work with the Director of Operations and others to plan for effective and economical operations.
Perform other duties assigned.
Must be available for afterhours work, “on call” duties, and may be required to work unusual hours in emergency situations
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma plus two year technical degree or at least two years of acceptable college level course work with emphasis on mathematics, science and chemistry.
Knowledge of processes and equipment used in water filtration and treatment; ability to evaluate information, reason through application of principles to solve practical operation problems.
Must hold a PaDEP Class A1 Waterworks Operator Certificate as provided for in 25 Pa. Code § 302, or be able to obtain the certificate in a timely manner.
Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and prints.
Ability to work effectively with management to meet the Authority’s established goals.
Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan one's own and plant staff's efforts to meet desired goals.
Minimum of six years of experience as a plant operator, or equivalent training and process experience in water treatment.
Supervisory experience in a water or wastewater treatment facility of comparable size is highly recommended.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
This is a salaried position that may require additional hours as necessary to complete projects within deadlines and may require unusual hours in emergency situations.
Incumbent may be required to attend seminars and meetings that may require travel and overnight stays.
