Salary/Pay Rate: $57,663 - $81,076 annual based on experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, environmental science, biology, microbiology, physical sciences or engineering with at least 16-college semester credit hours in chemistry and minimum of 4-college semester credit hours in microbiology or PA DEP Wastewater System Operator Certification, Class A, sub classifications 1 (activated sludge), 2 (fixed film treatment), and 5 (laboratory supervisor); at least 1 year wastewater laboratory experience; if not already certified, must obtain a PA DEP Wastewater System Operator Certification, Class A, sub classifications 1, 2 and 5, within four (4) years of hire date and maintain a valid certification thereafter.
REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, and drug test.
NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED: This position Supervises operation of the wastewater treatment plant laboratory; performs laboratory analyses and QA/QC procedures to maintain regulatory permits, laboratory accreditation, and industrial reporting requirements; works day shift weekdays with day shift weekend and holiday rotation; and reports to the Quality Manager.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Serves as supervisor for WWTP laboratory overseeing operations and personnel; performs physical, chemical, and bacteriological analyses on wastewater samples following all state and federal regulations and requirements; maintains laboratory data and communicates results to plant personnel; recognizes outliers in results and conducts source investigations; prepares required reports required; maintains inventory of laboratory chemicals, instruments, apparatus, and supplies; maintains laboratory SOPs, quality assurance, and quality control requirements and instructs personnel on proper SOPs and QA/QC procedures; responsible for laboratory safety procedures.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of wastewater operations and standard methods of physical, chemical, and bacteriological analysis of wastewater; advanced knowledge of common laboratory instruments (spectrophotometers, ion selective electrodes, and dissolved oxygen electrodes); effective oral and written communication skills; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others; possess intermediate computer skills and ability to learn laboratory data management software; thorough knowledge of laboratory safety rules; ability to evaluate situations, troubleshoot solutions, and make sound decisions; skilled in coordinating and communicating with outside agencies; ability to work in a wastewater treatment plant environment.
