Are you looking for a fantastic career at Aqua? We have a great opportunity for a Instrumentation Control Specialist, under the direction of the Control Center Operations Manager. The Instrumentation Control Specialist plays a critical role in our Process Control department. The position maintains and enhances existing process control systems to ensure continuous delivery of safe drinking water and reliable wastewater services to our customers. There will also be opportunities to develop and startup new control systems under the guidance of the other department members. This position requires someone who enjoys a challenge and appreciates the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a team.


Troubleshoots and maintains PLC (programmable logic controllers), OIT (operator interface terminal), and HMI (human machine interface) programs used to operate and control water and wastewater facilities.
Troubleshoots and maintains communications devices such as switches, radios, routers, and modems.
Builds strong working relationships with operations staff to resolve monitoring and control issues.
Ensures all modifications are tested and functional from the PLC to the end user’s display.
Follows departmental protocols, processes, and standards to ensure equipment is working properly and issues are fully resolved within service level agreements.
Partners with electricians and instrument techs to ensure field devices are properly monitored and controlled by the PLC.
Performs additions and upgrades to PLC, OIT, and HMI programs including startup and testing in order to provide continuous improvement of operations.
Delivers turnkey systems from program development through startup and commissioning. Prepares project plan and status updates as needed.
Updates and maintains current and accurate documentation for all field modifications.
Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned.

Associated Degree in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Programming; or
ISA Certified Control Systems Technician certificate; or
Trade school certificate with an emphasis on electrical circuitry, computer programming, networking, or instrumentation & controls combined with at least two years of experience in control systems.
Two or more years of experience in the water and/or wastewater process control field is preferred.
Experience with the following systems and technology is desired: Allen Bradley PLCs / RSLogix; Modicon PLCs / Unity; Wonderware Intouch or System Platform
Valid U.S. driver’s license

Understanding of electrical circuits, programming concepts, and process control instrumentation
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, PLC/OIT Programming (Unity, RSLogix, Etc), Visio
Familiarity with digital multimeter technology
A basic knowledge of network communications diagnostics tools
Familiarity with the safe operation of hand tools
Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally) with internal customers
Strong inter-personal skills will be required for interfacing with operations staff and vendors using the SCADA systems. This position requires the ability to work independently and take projects from concept through startup
Strong customer service skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment

Perform sedentary work- exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
Operate standard office equipment.
Working conditions include travel to work sites of Aqua, PA; the service area responsible is from Gettysburg to Honesdale; occasional overnight travel may be required.
This position participates in a weekly on-call rotating schedule every 3 weeks. The on-call schedule requires the candidate to be available nights and weekends to adequately staff a 24 hour/7-day operation.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements

Essential Utilities and its subsidiaries, including Aqua, Delta, and Peoples Natural Gas, requires new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, where allowable under the law. To satisfy this requirement, new hires who received the one shot regimen of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine must receive the one dose shot prior to their first day of employment. Proof of vaccination must be provided on your first day of employment. For the two shot regimen of either Pfizer or Moderna, a new hire must have received at least one dose of the vaccine before their first day of employment. Proof of the second dose date must be received within the recommended timeline based on the manufacturer’s vaccine received. For example, for Moderna as soon as the 28 day period has elapsed and for Pfizer as soon as the 21 day period has elapsed. Failure to provide proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will result in the termination of your employment with Essential Utilities including its subsidiaries Aqua, Delta and Peoples Natural Gas.

If you are unable to be fully vaccinated due to a medical or religious exemption, you will be required to apply for an exemption on your first day of employment with Essential Utilities. As part of the process, you will be required to provide information and/or documentation to Human Resources about the reason(s) you cannot be vaccinated. If your request for an exemption is not approved, then your employment may be terminated.
