Corrosion Control & Flushing: What's in Your Pipes? This course covers the basics of corrosion in a water distribution system, methods of control and distribution system flushing.

Chlorine in the Distribution System, Dealing with the Good, Bad, and Ugly: The Good - As a Bactericide - What makes chlorine such a good disinfectant, and why it is used so extensively? We delve into super chlorination and chlorine used as a primary and secondary disinfectant. The discussion will include proper chlorination techniques and the roles of flushing when it comes to repair and/or replacement of distribution lines. The Bad - Need for Dechlorination - Since chlorine is such an effective killer, uncontrolled releasing into the environment is not acceptable. We will discuss what chemicals are available, the equipment needed based upon application, proper techniques, and monitoring your results. The Ugly - Issues with Disinfection By-Products - Using chlorine as a bactericide is good, but its reactions as an oxidizer cause heartache for many systems. Other chemicals may be suitable for your system, but if not, certain techniques may also be helpful in limiting DBPs in the outer reaches of your system.

Supplies, materials and lunch are included with registration.
