8/12/2021 - #8698: Wastewater Biomass Enhancement and Bioaugmentation (Live Online - ZOOM)
This course reviews 1) the biomass enhancement topics of: a) the different forms of respiration (degradation of cBOD) and their impact upon the treatment process, b) inhibition and toxicity, c) roles of major and minor nutrients and d) impact of changes in growth factors (pH, types of substrates, presence and absence of dissolved oxygen and temperature): and 2) bioaugmentation topics of: a) indigenous bacterial and augmented or commercially prepared bacterial cultures, b) selection and addition of bacterial cultures, c) goals of bioaugmentation, including start-up and recovery from inhibition and toxicity, decrease in sludge production, cold weather nitrification, foam control and odor control. A format for using or not using bioaugmentation as well as accessing bioaugmentation performance is presented.
