POSITION TITLE:  Wastewater Operator

LOCATION:             Milton, DE

About the Role:  We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Wastewater Operator to join our Wastewater Services Department. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our wastewater treatment plants in accordance with DNREC guidelines. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and experienced in wastewater treatment operations and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate wastewater treatment plants within DNREC regulations and performance standards.
  • Inspect all assigned treatment plants daily, including pumps, motors, and associated equipment.
  • Monitor station input/output and chemical feeders.
  • Identify and troubleshoot operational or mechanical issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and ensure all facilities and equipment operate efficiently and safely.
  • Assist the Supervisor in coordinating daily work assignments for Wastewater Operators.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors, including farmers and golf course operators.
  • Collect and analyze laboratory and process control samples.
  • Input daily operational and laboratory data into computer systems.
  • Respond to emergency situations and after-hours operational needs.
  • Recommend and assist with facility and process improvements.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Wastewater License.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and data entry systems.
  • Ability to perform physical labor including climbing, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize multiple operational tasks.

 Working Conditions: This position involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Exposure to vibration, noise, fumes, odors, dust, and gases may occur. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be required.
