The Summit Township Sewer Authority (STSA) is seeking a Maintenance Technician or Collection System Operator to support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of the Township’s sanitary sewer system.
This position focuses on sewer collection systems, lift stations, and field operations. Candidates with PA DEP Wastewater Collection System (Class E) certification or relevant experience are strongly preferred.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining system reliability and protecting public health through responsive field operations. It is well-suited for individuals who value public service and take pride in contributing to their community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain sewer collection system infrastructure, including lift stations and pumping equipment
  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and system monitoring
  • Respond to alarms, sewer backups, and emergency service calls
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in the field
  • Complete PA One Call utility markings in compliance with regulations
  • Assist with sewer main, manhole, and system repairs
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and operational records
  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency response
  • Work independently in field conditions and make sound decisions during on-call and emergency situations

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in field and emergency conditions
  • Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and ability to respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to pass background screening as part of the hiring process

Preferred:

  • PA DEP Wastewater Collection System Operator License (Class E)
  • 2+ years of experience in utilities, wastewater, mechanical maintenance, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Experience in mechanical maintenance, construction, or public works
  • Candidates without a Class E license will be considered if willing to obtain certification within 15 months. Training and testing costs are paid by STSA. Upon successful certification, a $1.00 per hour wage increase will be provided.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor and indoor work in all weather conditions
  • Physically demanding work (lifting, climbing, confined space entry)
  • Participation in scheduled on-call rotation
