Location: Hidden Valley, Pennsylvania – Somerset County.
Department: Water and Wastewater Operations
Reports To: President
Employment Type: Full-Time – Weekdays except in emergencies.
Community: Resort community with 1,100 homes.
Daily Treatment: .15 – .25 MGD treatment
Position Summary
The Licensed Water and Wastewater Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and repair of water and wastewater treatment facilities serving the Hidden Valley, Pennsylvania area. This position ensures the delivery of safe drinking water, proper treatment of wastewater, and compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The operator works independently and as part of a team to maintain efficient plant operations and protect public health and the environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Water Treatment Operations
- Operate, monitor, and maintain water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, filters, chemical feed systems, storage facilities, and distribution components.
- Collect water samples and perform routine laboratory testing to ensure water quality standards are met.
- Adjust treatment processes and chemical dosages based on operational data and test results.
- Inspect wells, storage tanks, booster stations, and distribution system components.
- Maintain accurate operational logs and regulatory records.
Wastewater Treatment Operations
- Operate and monitor wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment.
- Collect and analyze samples to ensure compliance with permit requirements.
- Monitor lift stations, collection systems, and related infrastructure.
- Adjust treatment processes to maintain optimal plant performance and regulatory compliance.
- Respond to alarms, equipment failures, and emergency situations.
Maintenance and Compliance
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Troubleshoot operational and equipment issues.
- Maintain compliance with Pennsylvania DEP, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare and submit required operational, maintenance, and compliance reports.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including confined space entry and chemical handling requirements.
Emergency Response
- Participate in emergency response activities involving water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Assist with repairs to water mains, sewer lines, pumps, and treatment equipment as needed.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours operational needs and emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid Pennsylvania Water Operator Class C and Class E License, or have the ability to obtain the required certifications within one (1) year of employment.
- Possess a valid Pennsylvania Wastewater Operator Class A and Class E License, or have the ability to obtain the required certifications within one (1) year of employment.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, regulations, and engineering drawings.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, SCADA systems, and electronic reporting platforms.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to successfully pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing, if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of both Pennsylvania Water and Wastewater Operator certifications at the time of hire.
- Three (3) or more years of experience operating community water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and process control.
- Experience with maintenance of pumps, motors, controls, and treatment equipment.

- Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment operations.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills- manage 2 laborers.
- Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, enter confined spaces, and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, distribution and collection systems, and field environments throughout Hidden Valley, Pennsylvania.
- Exposure to chemicals, wastewater, mechanical equipment, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
- Participation in rotating on-call, weekend, and holiday schedules may be required.
